Dockside Summer Event Series Recap

It’s been an amazing summer at Dockside in Whitby, and the Dockside 2018 Summer Event Series has just wrapped up for the season. Brookfield Residential has been a proud sponsor of Dockside’s impressive series of community events since early 2017. Nestled into Whitby Harbour on the shores of Lake Ontario, Dockside is where city meets waterfront – Whitby’s new lakefront destination.

The Dockside 2018 Summer Event Series consisted of four amazing events. Read on for a recap!

Summer Fest & Lakeside Cinema (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle)
This summer’s Dockside events started with Summer Fest & Lakeside Cinema on June 30th to kick off Canada Day weekend in style. The fun all-day event included food trucks, a beer garden, popcorn and snow cones, games and activities for kids including face painting and bouncy castles, live music from Gareth Bush, a Mountie on stilts, art-making, live hawks and other birds, and countless great photo ops! In the evening, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle played on the big screen as dusk rolled in. We had a great turnout and tons of positive feedback from Whitby residents who enjoyed the event.

In July, we sponsored Dockside FIFA Fest to celebrate the World Cup Final. We brought together hundreds of Whitby soccer fans to cheer on France or Croatia and to come together to watch the match live on the big screen. FIFA Fest had food trucks, a beer garden and plenty of snacks and treats for the game watchers. It also had a huge variety of games and entertainment related to soccer, including bubble soccer, inflatable targets so kids could practice their kick, a relay course from Plank in the Park to test your agility and more. After the game, soccer jugglers took to the stage to showcase their impressive skills. It was a great time all around!

Lakeside Cinema (Solo: A Star Wars Story)
The third event in our Summer Event Series was Lakeside Cinema, an evening by the lake at Whitby Harbour on August 11th. Attendees got to relax and socialize on the Whitby waterfront with music, games, food trucks, a beer garden and more. At dusk, everyone got their popcorn and blankets ready and settled in for a viewing of Solo: A Star Wars Story. It’s wonderful to watch people of all ages come together at Dockside’s events, and this Lakeside Cinema was a shining example of that. After all, from the very young to the very young at heart, who doesn’t love the Star Wars series and fresh popcorn?

Girls’ Night Out & Lakeside Cinema (Pitch Perfect 3)
Last but not least, we sponsored Girls’ Night Out & Lakeside Cinema less than two weeks ago. This event, on August 25th, gave girls and women of all ages in Whitby the perfect opportunity to come together for a night out. The fun event included goat yoga (which was a crowd favourite!), flower crown making, a live DJ, food trucks, a beer garden, a Rosé All Day station (with all proceeds going to The Denise House), games and an assortment of amazing local vendors. The night ended with a few laughs watching the featured movie, Pitch Perfect 3.

All in all, we had a great summer at Dockside! Thank you to everyone who attended the events.
